AMC ambassador wagon |

Yes, by the big bumpers it will have to be a 1973 or 1974 model. Then there were only Ambassodor Broughams [88-7]. |

This is a 1974 model, the last year for the Ambassador. This was a rare vehicle (and is even rarer after this scene); only 7070 Ambassador wagons were built for 1974. |

Yay! I'm glad someone finally posted a picture and identified this station wagon. I always wondered what was the name of this car. |

There'a another AMC wagon to the right, the tan colored one. Anyway, it's a shame that this Ambassador wagon was completely destroyed. |

Well the tan one survives; this one just bangs into it after the truck shoves it aside. Minor body damage. It may still be somewhere. |

Someone out there probably needed/needs the impossible to find grille from that one-year-only car. Seems a ton of these AMCs were smashed in movies back in the 70s/80s. I was born in 1981 so I barely remember them, I know I haven't seen one in about 15-20 years in person, maybe more. |

What a shame to smash up such a rare wagon. I always liked them Ambassadors. I don't understand why they were shunned when they were new, as I can think of plenty cars that are worse then these. |

Indeed. I particularly like the 1972 Ambassador with its very regal-looking front. When I had a summer job with the Department of Human Resources back in 1979, I got to use an AMC Concord. Nice car. My Uncle was an AMC dealer for many years (after handling Studebaker from 1952 to 1966). |

Everybody seemed to hate AMC's mid and full size cars back in the 70's, but they were actually pretty reliable cars. The Matador for example, was a very roomy dependable car. Cops would not of used them if they had been otherwise. Hah, you want a rare AMC, take the 1967 Marlin, built on the Ambassador body. Made for that year only, before switching to midsize. That thing would be worth some money today. |

And when was the last time you saw an AMC Pacer. (I have to admit, that was one AMC product I did not particularly care for) The Marlin was built from model years 1965 through 1967, but only the '67 resembled the Ambassador, as you indicated. |

What about the Javelin. Those are worth money today. I like the Gremlin too, but I think the 77's and 78's look the best, IMO. I was never too big on Pacers either, but I think compared to a Pinto or Vega, they'd be the better choice. |

I remember trying one out at my Uncle's dealership back in the late '70's and being impressed by how solid the doors were, but I could never get used to the styling. |

Sitting in the backseat of one of those must be like being under a magnifying glass. |

This was filmed in Detroit. Being a lifelong resident of the area (and AMC fanatic) I can say for a fact that by the mid-80s, most AMCs from this region were well rusted.I bet most of the cars from this scene were local, rust-damaged Detroit cars that were minimally touched-up to look intact. My '74 Gremlin from the west coast has NO undercoating. I bet this wagon didn't either. You can imagine how it probably looked up close after 10 winters on salt-covered roads. The last thing on their mind was the cars rarity factor. This was just a 10-year-old midwestern rustbucket. |

I saw a 1970s AMC Hornet Sportabout Station Wagon recently but apart from that, I haven't seen many AMCs . |

The other AMC wagon is an earlier version (1971-73). I can't tell if it's an Ambassador or Matador. |

These cars are still plentiful somewhere and someplace...I've seen a few Ambassador wagons of this generation. Sadly, I haven't seen a '74 yet |

Fun fact about this scene, that wasn't supposed to happen, the wagon would've went under the truck, but the stunt driver was quick and made this scene happened. -- Last edit: 2018-10-15 23:21:09 |
