It is a white van between Polonez Taxi and black MB. On the site we don't have many these with DAF badge. In those times they were even common here, but it is rather immpossible to find one today. -- Last edit: 2008-09-13 17:34:06 |

I remember, that these DAF-badged LDV's were very popular in the former GDR, after the Wall felt down. A lot of people, who'd found an own business there around 1990/91, have chosen these vans. Perhaps because they were much cheaper than a VW LT or a Mercedes Transporter. The absolute majority of them had DAF-badges. LDV was never officially sold in Germany, I guess. But it was only for a quite short time. They disappeared very soon and today you cannot see some any more. -- Last edit: 2008-09-13 21:27:28 |

The LDV name didn't exist until 1993, by the way. Previously it was part of Leyland DAF. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LDV_Limited#History |

Ah, thanks for the informations. So how it had worked with the name before 1993? DAF in Continental Europe and Leyland in the UK? Am I right, that it based on the Leyland Sherpa? /vehicle_6617-Leyland-Sherpa-1975.html Before 1990 I cannot remember, that I've seen such a van over here. There was no export to Germany. I don't know, how it was in the countries around. -- Last edit: 2008-09-13 22:05:58 |

Yes, DAF abroad and in its homeland it was Leyland-DAF (same like trucks). And indeed it's an another life of Sherpa. Here it was imported in similar years - early 1990's to 1993. Then since ca 1995 LDV's were imported/assembled with Polish Andoria engine, first by Andoria and then by the DMP plant in Lublin, as both companies (DMP and LDV) were merged for a while. The today's LDV Maxus was actually designed as succesor of our Lublin van. -- Last edit: 2012-09-18 19:51:32 |

LDV and DMP were never merged, but they worked together on a new van that LDV eventually launched on its own as the Maxus, after Daewoo's bankrupcy. LDV had to buy out Daewoo's share in the project and move the tooling from Poland to the UK. -- Last edit: 2008-09-13 22:54:21 |

As I know LDV was owned for a while by a Daewoo and that's why they co-operated. Merged maybe wasn't good word - it is a case of translation. -- Last edit: 2008-09-13 22:19:27 |
