I don't know. But I know this much, I discredit my guess. (I don't know if the NYPD had LTD Crown Vics in the 80's)

They didn't use any, at least not that I know of. Even if they did, the chance of this being one of those ex-NYPD units is a longshot. I'm sure you remember this car:

Hee hee!! Oh yeah! It took exactly five years for the CPD to actually use Impalas. In fact, That exact car was on display at a CPD headquarters in the same paint job. I guess they just added the lightbar for the movie.

Yeah, I know about it, I frequent the site. I also saw your comments on the CPD Caprice with the Ford hubcaps.

I find it weird, but It's fascinatng. I drew a picture of a 1991 Caprice 9C1 with Ford hubcaps about three years back. I still have it too.

I've been fascinated with them since I first saw 'The Last Boy Scout', all those LAPD Caprices and Impalas. Then I saw 'The Fugitive'. Any movie with my favorite cop cars are sheer beauty. :D

Notice fender tag. Either an '83 or '84.
The '85's + deleted them.

Ha ha, I'm the same way, I could tell you more about a police package car and what makes it one than I could about a civilian car

"1983 Ford LTD Crown Victoria S [P72]" a civilian base model even came from the factory with more trim than this, and after asking on facebook and doing research as well as personal trial and error, you have to have the factory police package 15 inch wheels to fit this type of 79-89 Police Package Dog Dish hubcap, because they take special 15 inch police package exclusive rims that have nubs that were only used on the police package cars, the civilian market cars did not have nubs on the steelie rims to hold this type of hubcap, civilian models in fact don't fit this type of hubcap at all, while the police package rims can be put on a civilian model you would have to find them first, which I really don't think anyone is gonna do that, this is also a factory hardtop because whenever people remove vinyl roofs on these cars the "Crown" emblem between the front and rear doors has to come off with that because it's attached to the vinyl roof, but on a factory hard top the Crown Emblem is already there, further more this car has a larger rear swaybay and dual exhausts, something no civilian model ever had, the dual exhausts mean that it has the 5.8 Liter 351 which was only available on the P72 Police Package model after 1982, which this car is obviously a 1983 model, so that means it's a P72, (I'm hoping I don't have to write essays for all of this P72's LOL, I noticed a lot of 86-96 Caprices on here being called 9C1's without any real proof when there are plenty of easily obvious P72 cars on here that don't get that denotation for whatever reason. This car is once again a "1983 Ford LTD Crown Victoria S [P72]" ("S" is the trim level in which this car is, the P72 police package could also be optioned on the LX, not even kidding, it just would've had a "vinyl roof delete" as ford called it when ordering one of these cars back in the day. Which is why it isn't uncommon at all to see trimmy LTD Crown Victoria's with a P72 vin number, that's because they're LX P72's, this is an S P72. "1983 Ford LTD Crown Victoria S [P72]"
