I think it's a Hindustan. |

It is a Fiat 1100. Maybe Premier has assembled this model at some stage? Hindustan Ambassador in turn is a Morris Oxford. |

Wikipedia says the facelifted 1100D was made under license in India by Premier, but apparently not the original 1100 like this one. |

In fact, this 1100/103 was the 1st Fiat car made in India by Premier Automobile Ltd.(early ones dates back 1954 down there and the model was replaced since 1968 by more modern Padmini--aka ex-Fiat 1100 D) -- Last edit: 2007-06-11 22:48:55 |

Poi si tratta di una Premier 1100/103? O piùtosto una Fiat 1100/103 fabbricata per India? |

Reported by"CHITTY-CHITTY-BANG-BANG"(n/l of USSR=Unloved Socialist Sovietic Republic Cars'Owners'Club--that talks about odd cars also),issue Aug.2006(article"Premier Padmini-An Indian Italian-The Fiat Millecento under a different flag"extract by text pag.8--article originally issued on "AUTO ITALIA"magazine and reprinted by n/l of Owners'Club): "...Fiat's involvement with India's motor Industry started with Premier Automobiles Ltd.of Mumbai,a firm that was formed in 1944 to assemble Plymouth and De Sotos.By the early 1950s,in the face of increased competition from Hindustan Motors-who built Morris cars under licence-it was seeking an European partner.Additionally, the Indian Govt.had started to provide incentives to encourage a local motor industry rather than just a network of CKD assembly plants. To further encourage this new policy car imports began to attract severe duties for CKD imports, which made it essential that any future Premier would be capable of full Indian manufacture. The Fiat 1100-103 was the ideal car for this purpose,in that it was better suited to the appalling road conditions and expensive fuel of 1950s India than the Plymouth, and gave Premier an up-to-the-minute product. ...Today,a right-hand-drive 1100 is mainly to be found in India where production of the model commenced in Mumbai during 1954.At the time its nearest competitor was the"Baby Hindustan",a locally-built version of the Morris Minor." PS Car seems had Rajastan(India's Province)registration(=RJ) -- Last edit: 2007-06-08 23:59:10 |

I think its one of very first model just named Fiat 1100 Delight...later ones were named Padmini...This particular model's front door opens otherway round unlike padmini. This one was also nicked named by a slang called Ram Pyari...its a hindi word similar for lovely lady (slang) |

This is a Fiat 1100 Elegant, designed by Dante Giacosa, assembled in India by Premier Automobiles Ltd. circa 1956/57. The car is bearing a 1973 Bombay registration MRJ -- clearly too new to be the original registration. Out-of-state cars that permanently moved to Bombay, Maharashtra were typically re-registered in Maharashtra. An original Bombay 1957 Fiat 1100 Elegant, would bear a BYH registration as the pics below: ![]() ![]() -- Last edit: 2008-04-13 14:04:45 |
