Two identical maroon Granada's were used in the 1978 and 1979 episodes. The registration YHJ 766T is a false registration used for filming. The real registrations of the cars were VHK 518S and FEV 24T. The latter car - whose genuine plate was accidentally left on the vehicle by the crew in a brief scene in 'A Hiding to Nothing' - was supplied just prior to the third filming block. The present whereabouts of both cars is unknown.

The 1979 car (FEV 24T) was a '2.8i' model.
The 1978 car (VHK 518S) was just a '2.8' (non fuel-injected).

Not sure if the statement above "The registration YHJ 766T is a false registration used for filming. The real registrations of the cars were VHK 518S and FEV 24T" is correct as YHJ766T shows up exactly as it appears on the DVLA records. Perhaps this was a real car using its real reg but they used two stand in cars as well and changed their plates over?

YHJ 766T is currently taxed and on the road! I haven’t found any other up to date information though.
However, as stated above and on other pages on IMCDB as well as other “Professionals” fan sites, it has been believed that the new Fords used on the programme have “reserved” registration marks not issued by the DVLA.
Due to a change in DVLA policy in recent years it has been possible to obtain these registration marks. UOO 303T to name one, isnow officially on the road.
Is it likely that the owner of YHJ 766T has obtained a similar looking car that fits the bill and reregistered it?

Found this by chance on the internet. It’s claimed to be a Ford publicity photo and I have no reason to doubt it was taken in 1978-9. It doesn’t answer any questions though!
