1977-79 International Harvester Soft-top Safari II (SSII). This model had removable fabric doors, a rollbar, and softtop. The 'Soft-top Safari' model was tagged the "SSII" by the IH marketing folks. As a result, buyers were generally unaware of the actual "Soft-top Safari" name. Eventually the "SS" letters were assumed to stand for "Super Scout", the name this model is called today. Needless to say that they are ultra rare beasts.

The junkman is very accurate in his description but not for this vehicle. This is the earlier Scout 800 Series with custom fender flairs and the door insert. The fender extentions are a cheap "universal style" the never looked good on anything. The plastic door insert was avaialable for Broncos and Scouts to give them a neater appearance with the doors removed. The SSII Scout came with these modifications but looked much more finished than this vehicle. The rear fender line of the 800 is different from the Scout II. I think there is a Scout SSII somewhere on the site.

Junkman is correct.

The Scout 80 and 800 both had an angled rear door edge

The later Scout II had bigger doors with straight edges front and rear.

The Scout II could be ordered with plastic door inserts to make the doors look like the older 80/800.

Actually, 4x4peru, junkman IS correct; this is without a doubt a 1977-79 Scout II.
These rough looking, but very specific fiberglass (!) door inserts ONLY came on the Scout II, but never on the Scout 80/800 (no need for them there as the door - cut out is already angled as mentioned by Uhclem).
Size and wheelbase of the movie vehicle also back up the Scout II, as the Scout 80/800 is significantly smaller.
Last but not least the Scout 80/800 did not have sidemarker lights like the movie vehicle / Scout II has.

I spent countless hours of my life with IH Scouts, feels like almost too many...
