Apparently most new car launches will have at least 50, maybe 100 or more in some cases, near-production-ready cars which for whatever reason can not be used on the road or released for public sale. All sorts of reasons for these ghost cars - maybe development/proving/component testing cars which are totally knackered or have a non-standard spec, soft-build assembly cars (the first ones off the line while everyone gets the hang of building them properly), homologation/certification cars, cars which are built/dismantled/rebuilt for compiling instruction/repair/maintenance manuals and workshop training, etc. These are normally scrapped. Or given to film companies to destroy. |
