I worked for Excalibur during the filming of this movie. Excalibur provided a look-a-like car to the one used in Arizona. The producers also needed a junker for Tom Berenger's character to drive, and they asked us if any of our employees had junkers. They staged a "line-up" of about 12 cars that our employees provided - it was held at Milwaukee County Stadium. Tom picked our car - this 1972 Impala belonged to my husband and I. The producers rented it from us for 7 weeks and only 13 seconds of it ended up in the movie. Also, although it looked like a beater, it was mechanically sound and made none of the noises that they dubbed into the movie. (Exhaust, power steering belt, etc.) I still have the check stubs from the production company, but the car was sold about a year later and unfortunately junked because of a bad starter. A very bad reason to junk it. |
