Also used on animation version. But for some reason or other, the animation car has different license plate. http://www.newvideo.com/images/boxart/AAE70906-03.jpg |

Technically this is a British Leyland car. On the DVLA website it's make is listed as "Leyland Cars" I believe the Mini was sold under several different brands during it's lifetime, including Austin, Morris, British Leyland and finally, Rover. The thing is the whole history of Austin becoming part of Morris and British Leyland seems pretty complex, should Minis on this mainly be listed as Austins and then Rovers in their final incarnation? -- Last edit: 2006-06-02 21:14:59 |

I also think it should be listed as a five stars car, because it has an important role in most of the episodes. |

To promote the animated series a replica of the Mini with registration DRW 221T was used. This replica is on display at National Motor Museum, Beaulieu. https://nationalmotormuseum.org.uk/car_collection/mr-beans-mini/ Wikipdia: "The cars used throughout the series also undergo minor noticeable changes as well; for episode 6, Bean's mini appears with a lock beside the badge on the bonnet - for use during the ‘Car Keys’ sketch at the beginning of episode 6. The car features upholstery with seat covers of a grey design with coloured stripes. Episodes 8 and 10 (the only two episodes filmed entirely on location and directed by Paul Weiland) show the car for the first time with 2 door mirrors (one plastic and one chrome), as well as a later Austin grille - indicating parts being swapped from car to car and/or the use of a different prop car for these two episodes. The final incarnation of Bean's car is shown during episodes 9 and 11 to 14[21] (episodes all directed solely by John Birkin.) This car has 2 chrome door mirrors and a different pattern on the seat covers. It also returns to a standard plain black Mini grille" About the crushed Mini: "The actual car used during the crushing scene however is noticeably a different car prop to the one used earlier in the series - this car has a later Austin grille as well as red rear upholstery - the previous prop car had had check upholstery since the episode "Do-It-Yourself Mr. Bean" Does anyone knows how many Mini they used during filming? And the Mini they crushed in which more episode did they used that one? It would be a shame in they crushed the legendary Mini from the episode "Do-It-Yourself Mr. Bean" EDIT:Never seen in the final edit of the movie, only on the extra section of DVD deleted scenes. In June 2018 the Mini from Bean (1997) /vehicle_1057004-Mini-1000-ADO20-1985.html still was sold for USD 70.000! There were three Minis painted green and black used in the series, as well as two others painted with the same colour scheme but with no engine that got crushed by the tank. One of the main cars was also crushed by the tank. During filming many parts were swapped from car to car throughout production, including bonnets, wheel trims, grilles, steering wheels, rear lights, occasionally the drivers door and the seat covers. More information and some great behind the scene photos. Check this awesome post. The person who wrote this owns the original Mini!; http://www.theminiforum.co.uk/forums/topic/336384-mr-beans-mini/ -- Last edit: 2018-07-28 14:12:02 |

Great post!! So the green and black Mr Bean Minis were; 🟢SLW 287R - main and most used, 1977 Leyland Cars Mini 1000, repainted Austin Citron Green (was Harvest Gold). (plate is used on all subsequent cars, although the 'real' SLW287R continued to be filmed too) DVLA data ends at 1991 but the car's alive and well. 🟢YAN 939T - second built for 'The Trouble with Mr Bean'; a 1978 Austin Morris Mini 1000 (originally Pageant Blue). This car was used in two episodes. DVLA data ends in 1997 but apparently the car's been in various museums, and now has an 850cc power plant. 🟢(ex)Russet Brown 1978 Mini - registration seemingly unknown, built from spares with a knackered shell. The most destructively modified of all; rear seat structure cut open, roof strengthened, controls rebuilt for secret operation and run over by a tank. 🟢ACW 497V - the imposter Mini, a 1980 Austin Morris Mini 1000 (but engineless) originally Flame Red. A Mini with a showbiz (1 film) past it had quick modifications to suit each part. Also crushed by a tank. DVLA data ends in 1993. 🟢(ex)Red Mini - unknown but also flattened by a tank. More in this fantastic forum thread here: http://www.theminiforum.co.uk/forums/topic/336384-mr-beans-mini/ The author also owns SLW 287R. |
