I agree, it is confusing but I don't think there is an answer because General Motors Corporation uses two logos: http://usautonews.auto123.com/ArtImages/49042/gmc_logo_rothwell.jpg and I don't know if the actual name is different. For example, here are two 'new look' buses that have different logos. This one has GMC: http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~wyatt/alltime/pics/montreal-gmc_bus.jpg This one has GM: http://home.earthlink.net/~bflop/busimg/553gm.jpg Both logos refer to the same company so perhaps it doesn't matter. I believe the difference between the two logos is the difference between 'GM' (General Motors Corporation blue rectange) is used for all GM brands including the car divisions, whereas 'GMC' is specificallay the GMC Truck and Coach Division. The blue 'GM' logo never included any reference to 'Corporation' in the past and continues as only 'GM' today. The blue logo originated in about 1969 as far as I remember. 'GMC Truck' originated in 1912. The earliest I can find a reference to 'GMC Truck and Coach Division' is 1943, although when the branding on buses became GMC rather than GM I don't know. -- Last edit: 2006-04-20 17:53:29
wrenchhead ◊ 2006-04-20 19:57	I agree that GM with the bar under it is the corporate logo. I just thought it was weird that there were some new look buses that use the GM logo; Particularly, when there are others that use the GMC logo.

fleetwood75 ◊ 2011-05-12 02:33	Snookie Yes, The standard length WAS 40 feet, PD4104 is DEAD WRONG on it being a 45 footer, GM never manufactured any 45 foot transit or intercity buses, However, GM Diesel Division of London, Ontario, Canada did manufacture a 60 foot New Look articulated transit bus in the late '70s & early '80s, But these were mostly used in large Canadian cities like Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto, etc.

Mr. TDM 4512 ◊ 2011-10-05 08:57	Those of you who said GM TDH 4512 are correct - however, this bus was never Surface Transportation or ex Santa Monica Municipal Bus Line as has been quoted on Flickr. For your edification; GM's large capacity transit 'Old Look' buses came in three lengths The 4500's including the 02, 05, 06, 07, 09, 10, 11 and 12 models at 35 feet. The 5100's including the 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 and 06 models at 40 feet. The 5500's including only the 02 exclusively for Chicago at over 42 feet. GM Old Look logos; (center of stainless steel wings under windshield); 1946 to late 1951; Stainless Steel and Porcelain - late 1951 to 1959 larger and encased in plastic. Regards, Mr. 'L'

Length was 35 ft. Still not totally incorrect, as the bus IS a TDH4512, is 96" wide, etc. OK?
