Hillman Minx Phase II 10hp saloon of 1947.It is a postwar model with the built-in trunk.Prewar Minxes of 1939 vintage were almost identical but had a flat rear , so that this car does not denote too much in a war scene |

In fact this model, with the enlarged boot, was the first Minx built without a separate chassis. It can also be identified from the front by its rear hinged bonnet. Because of this there was join in the radiator grill which is just visible at the bottom (it is more visible here /vehicle_86250-Hillman-Minx-Phase-I-1939.html ). It was due to be sold to the public from 1939 but production was switched to government or military cars because of the war. A Hillman Minx of this type used during the war is shown here…. (edit.. the car in the following link now actually turns-out to be a 1938 model!) http://clutch.open.ac.uk/schools/emerson00/pid_gawcott.html After the war and with some improvements using the same styling, it was sold from 1946 as a '1947' model. When the 1948 Minx Phase II was introduced it used a similar body but with the head-lamps integrated with the wings and the first model (1939-1947) was then called Phase I. This is a Phase II Minx (1948) ![]() -- Last edit: 2007-09-07 21:51:33 |
