Funny plate - diplomatic?? Or maybe even Irish??? If 79 as suggested, rear wiper probably means LS - no tints so not GLS. |

Diplomatic plate series introduced in 1979. D indicates that the car is an official vehicle of a diplomatic or similar mission, prefix number in 101 to 282 series indicates which mission, Afghanistan to Zambia at the time. In this case it is from an International Organisation as the prefix falls within the range 900 to 919. Please note: Although supposedly commencing on 1/1/1979, some plate changes commenced on 9/10/1978! Only the British Civil Service could be this obtuse. (9/10/1978 = 9th October 1978.) A full description of this arcane system is to be found on P42 of the Third edition of Mr Newall’s invaluable book, my copy of which is now falling apart through much use. -- Last edit: 2022-05-20 09:17:41 |
