This truck was actually rented from a wrecker company (Simmons Wrecker) in my home town of Meridian, Mississippi. At the time, it was one of the only four axle diesel wreckers in the country. It was originally painted in Simmons' normal colors of gunmetal grey with a series of straight red stripes going down both sides, but he gave them permission to repaint it for the film. -- Last edit: 2009-01-31 22:34:27 |

It was actually a 1979: http://www.salisburypost.com/2001june/062501a.htm I used to see the truck around town a lot both before and after the filming of the movie. It was the biggest freaking wrecker I'd ever seen, and I'm not sure I've seen one this big since. Simmons still uses Peterbilt wreckers with his same old dark grey and red color scheme, although I think the biggest one he has now is "only" a 3 axle. -- Last edit: 2009-01-31 21:45:15 |

The wrecker body is a late '80's, maybe early '90's Challenger. |
