This is not a 1951 Mercury. I was going to say it's a 49 or 50 but when I looked at the enlarged picture, the front license plate says "AWSOM50" so I'd say it's a 50 Mercury. |

This is a sweet car except for that stupid hood scoop. |

There were actually 4 '50 Mercs in various stages of damage that were used in the movie. |

1949 Mercury coupe with a roof chop and various other body mods. They used 4 during filming, 2 '49s and 2 1950s. All had big block engines. This is a fairly dull film after the chase finishes. Shame they wrecked the Merc so early in the film, a stupid end to a cool car. |

that car was rebuilt painted and used in the film gone in 60 sec with nick cage |

I remember seeing a short special on Cinemax in the late '90s that showed various cars stored on a Hollywood lot, and one of them was the battered shell to one of the Mercuries used in this film, just sitting more than a decade later. It's certainly possible, if it was still around then, to be fixed up and reused in a movie just a few years later, but I too would like to see proof of that. -- Last edit: 2011-07-01 03:47:03 |

This is not the car from Gone In 60 Seconds. People need to open their eyes. It is the same make and model, hell, maybe even the same year. But, the GI60 car is either kandy purple or blue with flames and a hell of a lot more body mods. Ibelieve it may even have been a convetrible with a Carson top. So get your facts straight before you lay claim please. |

The scene was originally shot with the bad guys crashing their Volare into the boat, then Cobra crashing right after them, and they escape on foot. Though they changed that during editing by using a different take of the killers breathing in relief (actually a shot from earlier in the chase, where they thought mistakenly they had shaken Cobra off), if you look closely at the above thumbs, you can see the crashed Volare next to the boat. |

Sylvester Stallone actually owns the car himself, so I doubt it "The custom 1950 Mercury driven by Cobretti in the film was actually owned by star Sylvester Stallone. The studio produced stunt doubles of the car for use in some of the action sequences, such as the jump from the second floor of the parking garage" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090859/trivia/?ref_=tt_trv_trv -- Last edit: 2023-07-13 13:29:45 |
