the sedan is a 1955 chevrolet 210 and the yellow car is a 1932 5 window "deuce coupe" |

Supposedly was also the same car from Two Lane Blacktop. |

One of them was the car from Two Lane Black Top. The rolled one was just a mock up. |

This car may be either a Bel Air, 210, or 150. Because it's been customized, the Bel Air name plate and/or associated chrome side trim is missing. The trim would identify it as a 150, 210,or Bel Air. I do know the car appeared in the auction pages of Hemmings Motor News a few months back.Check www.hemmings.com for an update. The actor driving it was Harrison Ford. |

The rolled car in Graffiti was also a stunt car from Two Lane Black Top. They are actually 150 Sedans. |

It makes me mad when they wreck American muscle in movies. I can't stand it. |

The '55 Chevy shown is not a Bel Air nor is it a 210. It's a 150, identifiable by the rubber around the windshield instead of stainless trim, lack of side stainless, and the lack of stainless along the beltline. This '55 was one of three built for Two-Lane Blacktop, and one of two that were reused in American Graffiti - the other '55 from Two-Lane Blacktop was a stunt car with a six-point rollcage and is the one that rolls over in the drag race scene at the end of American Graffiti. Yet another '55 was dragged in from a nearby salvage yard and burned. It was a two-door hardtop, and a piece of wood was added to the body to make it look like a sedan. The '55 Chevy advertised for auction in Hemmings Motor News a couple of years ago was offered by George Barris and was a bad clone never used in either movie. |

Here is some information about the fake American Graffiti '55 Chevy that Bonham's advertised in Hemmings for Barris who was trying to sell it as the real car: Sale 13278 - Barris Motor Car Collection, 14 May 2005 Petersen Museum, Los Angeles, CA Copyright © 2002-2007 Bonhams 1793 Ltd., Images and Text All Rights Reserved Lot No: 800W 1955 Chevy American Graffiti Universal, 1973. 350 V8, 350 automatic transmission. Universal worked with George Barris to procure several cars used in the film, including the Deuce Coupe, Merc Chop, T-Bird, and ’58 Chevy. This car is known by Barris to be the #3 car in the drag race scene, but was not totally wrecked. It was restored by Jim Johnson, but is not documented. And here is some narrative from the auction results: Sold for $22,000 plus Premium and tax Lot Notice Lots 800–852 are taxable in the following states: AZ, CA, IL, NV, NY, MA, PA and WA. If a current title & registration is provided, we will refund the tax. Refund must be applied for prior to 12.31.05. Lot 800: An American Graffiti authority suggests 800 was not associated with the filming. You can check it out for yourself, just Google "Bonhams American Graffiti" and then search for auction lot number 800. Another point, it' totally false Universal working with Barris to procure those cars used in American Graffiti. The May 1976 issue of Street Rodder has a comprehensive article about the cars. Henry Travers, transportation supervisor on American Graffiti located and prepped those cars. |

![]() ![]() ![]() There's a new guy in town, Bob Falfa (Harrison Ford). Falfa: Hey man, sorry if I scared ya! Milner: You're gonna have to do one hell of a lot more than that to scare me! Falfa: I been lookin' all over for ya, didn't nobody tell you I was lookin' for ya? Milner: Hey, I can't keep track of all you punks runnin' around here backwards! Falfa: Hey, you're supposed to be the fastest thing in the valley man, but that can't be your car, it must be your momma's car! I'm sort of embarrassed to be this close to you! Milner: Well, I'm not surprised, driving a field car. Falfa: Field car? What's a field car? Milner: A field car runs through the fields, drops cow shit all over the place to make the lettuce grow! Falfa: That's pretty good. Hey, I like the colour of your car there, man. What's that supposed to be, sort of cross between piss-yellow and puke green, ain't it? Milner: Well, you call that a paint job but it's pretty ugly, I'll bet you gotta sneak up on the pumps just to get a little air in your tyres. Falfa: Well, at least I don't have to pull over to the side just to let a funeral go by, man. Milner: Oh, funn-eee! Carol: Your car's uglier than I am! That didn't come out right. At the end of the film they race at Paradise road at dawn, but Falfa loses it: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() -- Last edit: 2012-02-07 19:21:39 |

150 series with a 454ci Chevy engine, you never see under the hood cos that engine wasn't available in 1962 when the movie was set. Anyone ever notice how the car that burned looks like it has rear wheelarches from a 1956 Chevy? Bumper too perhaps? Tailights are '55 though, or at least they are on one side, the other one looks a lot like a '56 too... -- Last edit: 2011-03-17 19:58:44 |

About fifteen years ago I saw an article about this Chevy in one of my fathers carmagazines from the 70´s. If I remember correct, this car made the quarter mile in 10,5 sec @ 127 mph. As I said, I don´t remember for sure but quite sure... But you get a clue of how fast this car is. -- Last edit: 2011-02-04 23:03:48 |

Link to "theselvedgeyard.wordpress.com" The article says there were two '55 Chevy's made for Two Lane Blacktop, that were later used in American Graffiti, built by Richard Ruth. A third stunt car was also built for American Graffiti. The article has details on the cars. Cool stuff. |

Three '55s built for Two Lane Blacktop, best bits of two of those went into this one nice Graffiti car. The third Blacktop car was a stunt car intended for a rollover in Blacktop but never used, it was rolled in Graffiti after being made to resemble the other one. A fourth '55 - a coupe bought from a junkyard - was set alight for Graffiti. |

"Three '55s built for Two Lane Blacktop, best bits of two of those went into this one nice Graffiti car." Not quite correct. The '55 camera car from 2 Lane still exists today. Only the external shot car used in the race scenes and the stunt car ended up in Graffiti. |

I presume at the time this was made a lot of 17 year old cars would have been rough around the edges. In episodes of Ironside there are quite a few late 1950s cars looking rough. |

3 Cars were used in the movie. Two were from "Two Lane Blacktop" (originally painted powder blue but then repainted Grey Primer to better suit the characters in the film) and repainted Gloss Black. They were both 1955 Chevrolet 210's, 2 door sedans stripped of chrome trim with radiused rear wheel well openings (common practice to accommodate a wider tire, well into the 1970's). The third car (the Burn Car) was bought from a salvage yard and used strictly as the burn car in the final scene. It was a 2 door hardtop. A handle from a hockey stick was used to simulate the "B" pillar in a 2 door sedan (absent in a 2 door hardtop). The burn car was returned to the scrap yard. A studio employee bought both remaining '55 210's and sold one to a stock car racer (who eventually scrapped the car) and kept the other, eventually selling it. It had been bought and sold a plethora of times and is still owned by someone in the United States. |
