Again error, is a Td5 Series II (1998-2002) |

It belongs to Matthew McConaughey's character. It's definitely a 99 - 2002. There's a very funny/awkward moment in this car with the soon to be groom, bride-to be & wedding planner on their way through Napa. Gotta love those Disco's |

Is this scene shot in America? It would not be a Td5 but rather a petrol Discovery. Don't know if the 4.6 NAS spec Disco came in the pre-facelift model. |

A bit of a controversy surrounded the Discovery Series II. 1999-2003 models cannot lock the center differential, as Land-Rover disconnected the center differential lock (CDL), arguing that traction control (TC) was the future of 4-wheel-drive and would render the CDL obsolete. The ability to lock the center torque distribution (via CDL or other system) to 50/50 is a necessity for severe off road use. Not having that ability can hinder a 4x4 greatly. 1999, 2000 and some 2001 models were produced with the CDL in the transfer case, but the shift linkage needed for the driver to engage the CDL was removed (it would be like having a light bulb in a lamp, but no switch to turn on the light bulb). Finally, for the 2001-2003 model years, Land-Rover removed the CDL (light bulb) and in its place was a standard open center differential. Land-Rover quietly (perhaps embarrassed that TC could not do the job of front, rear and center differential locks) reintroduced the CDL and shift linkage on the 2004 model Discovery Series II. It is the only model year of the Series II that can lock the center torque distribution. |
