 What makes everybody so sure that this is a 1983? The movie takes place in 1981, and if it was a 1983, that would mean it is an "S" model. The "S" model came standard with front and rear spoilers...which this car doesn't have. They could've removed the spoilers...but it would have been easier and cheaper to use an older model.

 Even though the movie action is located in 1981, I think the selection of cars is not very accurately. They could have matched either way in the late seventies or the early eighties anyway. I think they match perfectly ok.

 @ HonchoRyanC: the "small" 928 4.5L this one has the small Wheels (15'') and no spoiler in front and back, the "S" had 16'' wheels and the spoilers...
The 928 was built from '76-'82, the 928S from '79-'86

 Maybe I can help, this car is owned by my Father and now resides in St. Pete Fl. He purchased after the movie was shot, as he owned a porche specialty repair shop, doing one off customs rebuild etc. The car was pretty badly beaten up in filming. It is now white with 16 inch rims.
The car is a 79. but was given a light facelift by the film makers to appear just a bit more like the current model (when movie was filmed).
No the car is not for sale.
No the car will never be for sale in my fathers lifetime.
The car and 140 +/- other including a 59 coupe with 19k miles and a 56 speedster that hasn't seen the rain since 58 have all been placed in trust to his church.
