Production was 1957–1972. This is the S2 model released 1960. |

I read that it was originally a 1965 Lotus demonstrator powered by a Cosworth 1500 engine. This makes it a Super Seven S2, produced from 1961 to 1968. For the final episode (and because Lotus had already sold the Seven) another car was needed, so Caterham transformed an earlier Anglia 105E powered car to look like it and with the same registration. Another curiosity is that the first choice was an Elan, but Patrick McGoohan preferred the Seven. |

...oh yes the Elan wasn't very butch was it.. I can understand why McGoohan chose the 7 to match his character ![]() |

The reason I watched the program was the car. In the late 80’s I was at a motor show (or possibly a classic car show) and saw the actual seven from the program. It was on display with a modern day car with the same paintjob and a big screen behind showing scenes from the program. From what rpcm says above it is likely the car I saw was the second one described. You also mention that an Elan was the first choice. I seem to remember in a rare epsisode not set in the village Mcgoohan drove an Elan. I think the episode was “The Girl Who Was Death”. |

I've read that Lotus was planning to drop the Seven from their line at the time The Prisoner went on the air. Interest and Sales of the Seven jumped so dramatically with that exposure that they continued production of the car for something like five more years. |

In one episode No.6 mentioned he had assembled the Lotus 7 from a kit, & could quote the engine serial number. |

The registration is currently on a 2001 Caterham Super Seven, which is currently off the road. |
