Thinking about the difficulty of putting a new and different engine in a Ford Escort, I would put this firmly into the court of the DVLA. I know the engine compartment of an Escort 1.6 Ghia quite well, my mum bought EFA 771Y new (to replace her Chrysler 2-litre, dsl) and kept it for several years, although I have to say it was automatic as she preferred them to manual despite having passed her test on a manual car. ps. Another fromstaffs heading for the great roads of the world, grandson Ethan passed his theory driving test yesterday.
