If you can emagine it, think of a bright red 1990's second generation Jeep Grand Cherokee four-door with a ton of junk piled in the back. It eventually dies when it flips and goes in a river with the "evil villains" shooting it. |

Can we get a model? Laredo, Limited or Cheif? We can check Sport off our list because it has 4 doors. |

It's a '96, although the one hanging off the cliff might be a '93 (the wheels certainly looks like they're from an earlier model). The Grand Cherokee was mildly restyled for '96, and the main change I can point out is the grille. On the '93, the bottom of the headlights and the bottom of the grille are parallel. But from '96 onwards, the grille dipped lower than the headlights (like on this Grand Cherokee). |

It's a Laredo with the 5.2 V8...you can clearly see the V8 badge on the hatch several times... |

Can you see very clearly what red jeep like because in river they change 1993-95 jeep Grand Cherokee SE and later they change 1996-98 Jeep grand cherokee laredo because 96's had black seat leather and 93's light gray leather that why they change it because they let 1993 jeep grand cherokee crash in river so the new 96 jeep grand cherokee is safe make look like 96 because they put fog lamp 93's jeep under front bumper they put the 93's Laredo wheel on the 96 jeep grand cherokee |

the Laredo trim can easily be recognized by the black body moldings on the doors |

We can't add in the 1993 one the one that goes into the river |
◊ 2017-03-06 19:46 |
the one falling in the river is a 1996 too |

I Understand Anyways here's an continuity error that i have found on IMDB When we see Jeff driving the Red Jeep, it appears to be a 1996, but in some shots of the jeep in the chase scene, it was replaced with a modified 1993. |
◊ 2017-03-07 07:19 |
if they modified it they did a pretty accurate job because i can't tell this one apart from a real 1996 one |
◊ 2017-03-07 07:21 |
Well i couldn't tell either but it's still 1996 |
◊ 2017-03-07 07:24 |
but the wheels are from a 1993 1996 should have those ones ![]() fog lights look a little bit weird too .. ![]() -- Last edit: 2017-03-07 07:26:49 |

hey, its nice 2 c u guys take such interest in this, i worked on the movie 4 one month on the american river, my work was responsible for at least three of the above pics, and we stored many red jeeps at our tow yards in rocklin and roseville during that month, all to what amounted to a 5 minute scene in the movie. |

This movie was just released by "Paramount Presents" on blu-ray. The Paramount blu-ray has audio commentary in which the director says they bought multiple Jeeps for the film, and Chrysler/Jeep was not up to doing product placement as the plot of the movie involves the Jeep breaking down. |
◊ 2025-03-25 19:42 |
Did at least one of the Jeeps survive after filming? |
◊ 2025-04-20 08:25 |
I've listened to the commentary twice, I don't recall them specifying the fate of the vehicles, but the director said production had to buy them, as Chrysler wasn't interested in promotion for this film. He specifically said they had to buy them - so in that case, they aren't like preproduction, crash test or concept vehicles, or anything that needed to be destroyed by law after filming, or couldn't be sold. Based on the front bumpers, they had a few including older models aith the flat bumper - I'm sure the hero Jeep(s) survived - I'm more curious about the Jeep from Cast Away. |
