I own a Mauritius Blue Citroen XM, so no surprise I researched the car within the criminal series Kommissar Dupin.

The Citroen XM is a key to the series. The Series is German, though alongside the Brittany scenery the Citroen XM is key to give the series and its main figure Dupin a very French touch.

At least three different XM were used in the series. But the cars were not replaced during episodes, it seems just for later episodes previous cars were no longer available. Sorry, I can't tell for sure when the cars were replaced. 9 Episodes were filmed so far and first aired between April 2014 and May 2021. Following Citroen XM I noticed:

1) Maurituis Blue with Beige leather interior, reg plate 624 ABX 75

This car seems quite high spec. Though it is difficult to tell engine and equipment level. And in colours it is probably the most beautiful combination (mine has grey Alcantara interior, nice but not as distinct).

They really made the XM a theme for the series already in the first episode "Bretonische Verhältnisse". The car was seen a lot, and Dupin gets caught in speed controls several times, in the end he even does it on purpose.

However the reg plate clearly is fake. It seems fitting at first as Dupin was postponed to Brittany for whatever infringement he did in Paris. So he would have a Paris 75 plate at first and a Brittany 29 or 35 plate later. However in the French reg system Paris went first into three digit letters, the reg plate 624 ABX 75 dates back to the year 1974, which is way too early for a Citroen XM. Since all of Dupin's XMs are post facelift Y4 models this reg plate is at least 20 years older than the car itself.

2) Black with Black leather interior, reg plate CA-591-SL with a 29 in the right hand blue ribbon.

This is a new style EU-French reg plate and for the time frame could very well be correct. Since Dupin was postponed from Paris to Brittany the change from a 75 to a 29 area logo is correct also.

This again seems a higher level equipment car, however from the engine sounds I would sense it is a Diesel, no idea if 2.1 or 2.5.

3) Grey with grey cloth interior, reg plate 609 PQ 29.

This car was used for at least the last two episodes so far. It seems a rather cheap trim level too, and grey in grey, at least for me quite a let down on previous versions.

The reg plate seems fake too, unless it is a previous registration that was kept for this car. The area code is correct for Dupin being in the Brittany since years now, but reverting to an old style French plate seems weird in the years 2020/2021.
