I believe it was a 1972 Nova with a '69 fender on the driver's side.

Does anybody know what happened with the "crappy blue Chevy Nova"?

With the louver at the front fender makes this 1970 only.

There are couple of thumbnails showing an older front bumper with smaller indicators is probably a bumper replacement.

Yeah, I figured judging by the thumbs, they used more than one "crappy blue Chevy Nova" for this film.

I would love to know how this rolling junkyard made it from Detroit to Los Angeles.

Yeah good point 440. These scenes outside his apartment were shot in L.A. So besides the great chase I don't think anything else was shot in Detroit.

I never got a chance to listen to the car. Would it likely have a 307 or 350, or did most likely have a 230 "turbothrift?"

Louvers were available in 69 and 70 only. The larger side marker lights and tail lights make the car a 70, provided the car wasn't just put together with spare parts (the color combo was available from 70-72). Lack of engine displacement above the front side marker lights means the car was either the base 4 cylinder or the 230 straight 6. In 1970, other motors (250, 307, 350 and 396) would have had an emblem above the light denoting the engine size. Having the vinyl top and chrome trim appearance package, it was probably a really nice car when new.

Fun Fact this was a replica of a real car the crew saw before filming.

Pretty sure this is a '69. The fender louvers were available in 1969 and 1970, but it has the '69 side marker lights on both front fenders and the pre-'70 front bumper.
