This was the reenactment of the attempted murder of Norman Josiffe (or Norman Scott) who was nearly shot by Andrew Newton as he got out of Newton's Ford Saloon at Porlock Hill near Porlock in Somerset on night of the 24th October 1975. Newton was an airline pilot who had been hired to kill Scott by poker machine operator, George Deakin in February 1975. According to the report, the plan to kill Scott occurred in early 1974 when Thorpe approached his friend; David Holmes and asked him to get someone to kill Scott. Unsure on how to proceed, Holmes met with an associate and carpet salesman, John Le Mesurier (not the actor) who introduced Holmes to Deakin who then approached Newton. When Deakin asked, Newton stated that he wanted £10,000 for the hit and was then put into contact with Holmes. With the arrangements set, Holmes reported back to Thorpe who then asked Bahamas-based millionaire and Liberal Party Sponsor, Jack Hayward to send £50,000 to replenish the Liberal Party funds with a further £10,000 that was given to Thorpe's associate, Nadir Dinshaw who then passed the money to Holmes. A short time later after the October 1974 Elections, Thorpe asked Hayward for another £10,000 to be sent to Dinshaw. In early October 1975, Holmes pay Newton the £10,000 fee for the hit, on the 12th October, Newton (using the name, Peter Keene) drove to Barnstaple in a yellow Mazda where he met Scott, claiming that was hired to protect Scott from "a Canadian hitman" who was hired to kill Scott. -- Last edit: 2023-12-29 09:59:12 |
