Filmed in Orkney (mainly Stromness, but some other locations on the Orkney Mainland used) as an adaptation of the novel "A Twelvemonth and a Day" by Christopher Rush which was set in the fishing villages in the East Neuk of Fife in late 50s/early 60s. The boat "Venus" at the centre of the story has a Kirkcaldy (Fife) number rather than one from Orkney:

Stromness main street still looks like this without any CGI or other trickery needed, although a couple of shop signs were taken down and road markings covered up.

Film vanished after release and Channel 4 broadcast with no DVD release, but has recently surfaced on youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhwjxAp2iD0 :king: . Well filmed quirky story through the eyes of a small slightly daft boy. Many locals appeared as extras in the crowd scenes, so I recognise several faces. Only 2 cars in the film.

A (modern?) crane at the end in the Ness boatyard at Stromness - no other views of it or the lorry trailer.
