Filmed in China and Australia.

Set in 1937 but with trucks from World War Two or later. As Alexander said about Empire of the Sun:
Quote Actually there is hardly any film showing armour from that period that is not using post-war equipment. Original military material is usually no longer existent, or not in a usable condition, or too valuable to be used by a film crew. The Shanghai occupation took place in 1937 and I doubt that vehicles from that time survived 50 years of war and communist rule in China.

No surprise there. The Jiefang truck is more than twenty years newer than the movie's time period, and the Dongfeng is nearly forty! Regardless, the movie was good for a historical melodrama, although the plot made it hard to feel very emphatic about anyone besides the three main characters.

Also, if anyone really wants to see a war movie where absolutely nothing was in period, you should watch Ba Bai Zhuang Shi (800 Heroes), where Chevrolet Corvairs, Toyota Coronas, Mercedes W180s and other 1970s vehicles appear in a battle that took place in 1937.
