![]() BBC Scotland production - imdb and credits say filmed in Lafayette (Louisiana) and Scotland, but I didn't spot any Scottish filming, unless it was for interior shots. Much praised film about grief and deep father-son relationship, but it's basically a re-write of Billy Elliot switched to US and with accordians ![]() instead of ballet. As I hated BE for its cynically calculated-to-have-lots-of-weepie moments, I struggled with this one as well. Some very wooden acting by folk who are capable of much better (although there's also some very good acting in the mix) and very clunky script in many key moments which kills the impact. But the cinematography is really good and the film is rescued by some superb cajun/zydeco music - if you like squeezebox tunes, it's a must-watch. And even if you don't, give it a try. |
