No pickup? |

directed (and written and played) by Hugo Haas, with Beverly Michaels—the femme fatale—, Allan Nixon, Howland Chamberlain (Chamberlin here). A very low budget film noir. With very good openings for each character, especially Miss Fatale, (Beverly Michaels), here on the verge to pick up a man hence the title, Gamer, cause the story is about, you know… er, actually you don't know, but, as Michaels says to her friend Jo Carroll Dennison: "Baby, sit tight, watch and learn." It's sort of a poor man's Postman always rings twice. Cheap, not great, but valuable because it has good moments. And this Beverly Michaels could have been somebody in the show business, she had the shape and the guts (in my very humble opinion). Trains! (Southern Pacific), because of poor old sod of a hero's job. Noticeably, this noir ends rather well—for everybody, since nobody is killed—but Fatale will have to hit the road, and good ol' sucker finally will find true love: Hugo Haas a une petite réputation auprès des fondus du film noir, aujourd'hui. Son Pickup a de bons moments, c'est vrai. Cela tient beaucoup à lui comme acteur, et à la femme fatale qu'il a choisie. Mais on va bientôt voir qu'il peut aussi grossièrement se planter. Even not a second chance with : (for the youngest of us: in France, but maybe in other countries too? , "pickup" was common name for these in the 50's, 60's). |

Ah, sixcyl, you make me think I had put this in reserve: for the Internet Movie Juke-Box Database. (Beverly Michaels was a tall woman, and a fine actress in being.) -- Last edit: 2015-05-15 10:41:34 |
