“The world would be a better place if men didn't buy wallpaper.” Despite Cary Grant and Carole Lombard in the lead this is not a comedy, and despite terrific supporting players I didn't like this movie much. Cary Grant's character was simply too much of an idiot for me to enjoy it. A small bus and an obscured taxi: |

I find Cary Grant rather overrated in general |

I quite like him in well-written comedies, but he does strike me as an actor highly dependent on a good, tailor-made script. If he had to work outside his comfort zone, especially with mediocre material, he was nowhere near as effective. Being hopelessly typecast for much of his career didn't help. That said, he was very good playing an apparent rotter in Hitchcock's Suspicion - but the effect was ruined by the idiotic, studio-mandated finale since he/they had an image to maintain. |

He wasn’t bad in The Equals. |
