dsl ◊ 2025-03-10 00:32	Stumbled on this 25 minute episode (S2, Ep4) of 1957-58 series of BBC documentaries "Eye to Eye" which has just surfaced on new BBC Archive youtube channel with a wide selection of assorted delights, amongst which was a 1968 episode of Wheelbase - predecessor to Top Gear - covering the launch of the Jag XJ6 with an interview with William Lyons. Looks as if it's going to be a collection of things you can lose yourself in for days at a time .. Anyway, Atom Men can be seen here - features the construction of Dounreay nuclear reactor on the north coast of Caithness, which now 65+ years later they're dismantling. Absolutely pin-sharp film quality which is a delight, and one for our fans of remote parts of Scotland (that's me - I know the area well), big technology, and of big late 50s construction projects, particularly those built in the back of beyond which have to be accompanied by effectively a new town to house all the workers during construction and afterwards. The pristine new housing estates built onto Thurso are now one of the most socially deprived spots in Scotland now it's all been downgraded to a demolition site.
