Crimps (rather than crimpies) - roughians or bullies in general, stealing from seamen when on shore. Previously, Shanghaiing or crimping refers to the practice of kidnapping people to serve as sailors by coercive techniques such as trickery, intimidation, or violence. Harpies - women who got seamen drunk only to steal from them. -- Last edit: 2016-01-25 14:27:16 |
