Famous hoax that a number of people thought was real due to the hosts playing everything straight and there being almost nothing telling audiences this was fake. It was also controversial, bringing up unpleasant topics. Very Paranormal Activity-like, though as a TV broadcast instead of a home movie. One of the many people who fell for it was host Michael Parkinson's own mother, who called the studio, concerned when poltergeist-like activity in the studio began to be shown. Complaints came from parents, scaredy-cats, and even a vicar who chastised the BBC for potentially letting Satan into people's homes. |
