Taken from BFI/COI Collection Vol 5: Portrait of a People 2-DVD set. DVD booklet says 1956, imdb says 1957. 20 minute portrait of Harting village in West Sussex. Enjoy the thrills of a parish council meeting, the magic of a Women's Institute demonstration of basket-making and a Young Farmers lecture on how to milk a cow from an expert cow-milker. Plus making bricks, a dominoes-and-cards social evening for the coffin-dodgers club and folk-dancing. I just about managed to stay awake until the end, but it was close .. A one-shop village in those days Camp coffee, Atora suet, Tate & Lyles Golden Syrup (couldn't find a smiley with a spoon), Birds custard ....The butcher sharpening his knife - are you really supposed to do that over an uncovered pile of fresh meat?? -- Last edit: 2016-09-13 23:13:12 |

Well, an UK butcher in pre-EU-times... They were very special up to bizarre, as Continental people told, who had been there back then. |

I worked for the village butcher for a while on Saturdays. Don't ask what went into the black pudding. |

As the saying goes, making laws is like making sausages -- you don't want to know what went into them. |
