Filmed in Hulun Buir Aimag, Inner Mongolia, China. One of the most beautifully photographed films I've ever seen in a fantastic landscape. Based on the friendship between a Russian truck driver and a Mongolian shepherd across totally different lives. Extracts on youtube starting at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qm4XebWE_3c but a subtitled version is essential. Excellent theme music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_U_DOuAWz4g . Lovely slightly absurd humour - the family get their first television, but grandma is more fascinated by popping her first bubblewrap: Cats for ingo: The daughter is a brilliant squeeze-box player and is reading his tattoo of the music for "Na sopkah Manchurii" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bo6Gy1A5I0 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Hills_of_Manchuria . -- Last edit: 2014-03-29 03:21:19 |

Background vehicles (unless anyone can pull a rabbit out of a hat) with no other/better views: (a bus) (2 green military jeeps parked together; there's also a red car - possibly FSO Polonez - and a white saloon - Hongki? - parked behind the horses but impossible to get proper unobstructed views) (a 124-based Lada or whatever local name) Everything else is horses, carts, and pedal bikes. Millions of them. -- Last edit: 2014-03-29 03:14:58 |
