I don't suppose that anyone who worked on this film had ever been to Long Island. :)

But if they were making it now they might film in Long Island, because the State of New York now offers tax incentives for film production.

 According to the Wikipedia entry, it was written and filmed as "Ein Sommer in Neu England". The cars have Maine license plates and addresses in Portland, Maine are shown. There are stock shots of Camden, Maine and Boston.
