TDH: Transit bus with a Diesel engine and a Hydraulic (automatic) gearbox. The Local announced on top of the bus is indeed a clue for a transit bus. But what indicates here a Diesel engine or an automatic gearbox? I see here 1959-62 rectangular side roof signals, but it's a bit blurry to be sure... It has at least the 1959-67 black background for the GM logo. |

Bullet-shaped clearance lamps first appeared in 1962, so this is a 1962 model at the earliest... @elmer-the majority of GM buses were diesels |

I see rectangular clearance lamps, you see bullet-shaped ones. It won't be simple As far as I remember, majority just means most of, not all. Saying this one has a Diesel engine based on the idea of majority is just a guess... -- Last edit: 2015-12-16 22:55:36 |

There were thirteen New Looks built with gasoline engines, all of them 30 feet long, from 1969 to 1971. It's a diesel. If you watch the episode, it's very clearly Short Line/Hudson Transit #458. It has Skyview windows, air conditioning, and bullet markers. I can't locate the number on a roster; it was probably bought used, and was probably built for service to the New York World's Fair. |

Short Line/Hudson Transportation 455 and 456 were, as suspected, ex-Greyhound 1964 GMC SDM5302s purchased for World's Fair service (these two later became New York Bus Service 1280-1281: https://cptdb.ca/wiki/index.php/New_York_Bus_Service). Reasonable to believe that #458 here is also a 1964 SDM5302. |
