This is London in the late sixties. The main two types of double deck buses in use by London Transport at that time were the AEC Regent III Class RT, (and its Leyland brothers the RTL and RTW) and the AEC Routemaster. There were some others, but these two types were predominant in the fleet, with the RTs being removed as they became due for overhaul/recertification. The seats in this bus are undoubtedly London Transport bus seats, the interior design is undoubtedly also LT. The front windows of an RT were of the half drop type which divide about half way down the height of the window, the front windows of a Routemaster were of the type incorporating smaller ventilators. The bus in this picture has ventilators. Upon this evidence I have based my suggestion. /vehicle_134494-AEC-RT.html RT viewed from the front. /vehicle_210768-AEC-Routemaster.html |

The exterior is definitely a standard RM Routemaster. The interior I believe is also an RM - the Routemaster was substantially more upright at the front than the raked RT family body. Difficult to tell the interior colours from this shot, looks possibly dark red to me. In later years London Transport RTW75 (Leyland PD2/3) was much used for filming. Leon Daniels (Surface Transport Director of Transport for London) commented to me some time ago that RTW75 had had its interior retrimmed in red rather than green, which meant it resembled a Routemaster inside. |
