I vaguely remember something about Ford having a contract with the US Postal Service to build certain trucks for them.

I lived in LA at the time of filming. I don't recall seeing a Ford postal truck on any routes.

Maybe it's a Ford Step Van

What did Garco's link used to say?

Ford for USPS was much smaller - http://www.roveroresearch.org/cars.html

This one above is probably Avan on Ford chassis, whatever this 'Avan' may be...

Well this certainly is interesting, I hope to acquire more Avans on this site, or see one in person some day.

I found this which also has Avan in the name http://www.coachbuilt.com/bui/v/vanette/oo1969_duravan.jpg but it looks nothing like this, and is called DurAvan rather than just Avan, but the A is capitalized so thats why I suggested it.

I've got it. ;)

It's an A-Van Step Van, produced by Airstream - Link to "palmbay.ebayclassifieds.com"

(maybe list them as Airstream A-Van?)

Yes we definitely should list it as Airstream A-van.

But how come this has a Ford emblem ?

Jale PL

Maybe chassis or engine is from Ford?

Must be. Based from a Ford Boyertown van.

Jale PL

No, base was Ford Vanette/P-Series chassis. Boyertown build only bodies, and not always on Ford chassis.

When were these made? First digit is a 7. So a 1987, 1977, 1967.... you get my drift.

Presently USPS removes manufacturer logos. Don't know if that policy was in place when this movie was made.

My first comment on this vehicle is exactly 13 years ago ! I'd say this van must be still in service in 1993, but I heard that this model was a 1977, since A-vans were produced earlier and had models from as far as I know, 1975.
