Riley?

By the way, what is the grey car in background?

That is a Wolseley 1500, not the Riley 'One-Point-Five' sister car

The grey car in the background is a Ford. Maybe a Popular.

In addition to the Wolseley 1500, BMC Australia offered two more basic versions called the Austin Lancer and Morris Major and I don't think we got the Riley One Point Five http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austin_Lancer

Has May 1960+ extended side trim (but still Mk1) and Mk1 grilles despite registration date being 2-3 months after Mk2 introduced with new front grilles.

We owned this car for almost 20 years and it was used in several productions. The car was very original and my understanding is that the early pattern grille combined with later style side flashes and absence of external bonnet/boot hinges made it a Mk2 - only the Mk3 having the later, wider chrome grille ends. A previous owner had sold the original registration and it wore an "A" suffix when we first purchased the car. The DVLA later agreed to issue the "age related" YFF registration.

Mk.II launched in May 1960. Agree with the comments about side trim and rear boot hinges being hidden.

The problem with our 1500s is that we have not identified the wide grille versions from Oct 61 as Mk3, so there is some confusion about what is Mk2 as well. We'll need to sort out all our Mk2s and separate out the Mk3s - suggest we follow the Austin Memories sequence as Sunbar's link as it gives clear identifiers though is wrong on one detail - full length side trim came in with Mk2 (not Mk3). Agree this is Mk2 in the full sequence. Useful info from oew to pin this one down precisely.
