'60 Comet Wagon Model 71A due to the taillamps and the script "Comet" located on the front fender. |

In which case it is a "Comet", not a "Mercury Comet". |

The Comet was developed as a compact car for the Edsel line, but Ford Motor Company discontinued the Edsel brand on November 19th 1959. While the show must go on, Ford released the 1960 Comet as a seperate model to be sold by Lincoln-Mercury dealers. For 1962, the Comet was integrated to the Mercury line. The cars were badged with a lettering Mercury on the hood and another one on the deck lid. The Comet model was included in all the mercury company advertising. So, 1960 and 1961 are "just" Comet's, but from 1962, they are Mercury Comet. |
