By the filming location, local production as default. |

I cannot really agree. Ford Köln was one of the biggest employers for Turkish immigrant workers, plus the fact, that the sturdy and simple (and cheaper han other German made cars) Ford of that times were very popular at them. The Turkish workers brought back thousands of them to Turkey. Still today older German immediately remember, when they see a Transit I, the nickname "Orient Express" and remember the scenes with terribly overloaded Transits on the way southeast-bound at the beginning of the summer-vacations in the 70ies. When Transit-I-drivers come to classic car meetings over here, often they hear "Hey, your car is not complete - there's no washing machine on the roof-rack!" No kidding, German policemen back then always checked these vehicles. During many years they pulled out all Transits with Turkish-looking passengers for checking weight, technical condition and amount of passengers. Also the P7-range and Granada I and II were seen as typical cars for Turkish family fathers, sometimes named "Ford Ankara". Sorry, if that may sound racistic, but it is a historical fact. |

But after all they didn't start production in Turkey (back then mostly for the Turkish market) for nothing. There had to be also a sufficiently high demand for such brand new cars too. |
