They were called New Yorker Fifth Avenues this year (1983) You don't see too many Chrysler M-bodys on dealer lots anymore

"Fifth Avenue" was simply a deluxe trim/interior package for the New Yorker. Not all New Yorkers were Fifth Avenue.

So what is this one? We have several 1982-1983 on the site listed just as "Chrysler Fifth Avenue" :??:

I don't know what this one is.

Starting about 1979/1980, the New Yorker and Fifth Avenue were the same car except for the Fifth Avenue trim/interior package. These would be Chrysler New Yorker Fifth Avenue.

I think that there was also a Fifth Avenue trim/interior package available for the LeBaron sometime in the 1980's.

Later, (may have been 1982/1983 I don't recall exactly) they became different cars. The New Yorker became a somewhat smaller front wheel drive car with a 4 cylinder engine and the Fifth Avenue was a larger rear wheel drive car with a V8 engine.

For '82 the M body LeBaron was renamed New Yorker (the R-body New Yorker was dropped and the LeBaron was put in a smaller front wheel drive body) for '83 the New Yorker was also put into a small front wheel drive body and the M-body New Yorker was now called New Yorker Fifth Avenue and for 84 it was simply called Fifth Avenue this name was used until the end of 1989 when the M-body was no more. on '79-'81 New Yorkers there was a Fifth Avenue Edition option this became an option on the LeBaron in 1980 and was also avilable in 1981, it was also optional on 1982 New Yorkers (I know I have one)

from previous experience...i wouldn't trust Wikipedia. unless a Chrysler expert was on the site, then i think it should change if they thought so.

I sure am not an expert but I had a 1984 New Yorker. It had front drive and a transverse mounted 4 cyl Mitsubishi engine. It was a relatively big 4 door car. I also know that there was a fifth avenue that year that had an 8 cyl engine. I know that a year or two earlier the fifth avenue was simply a trim package for the new yorker. The only big difference I recall is that the fifth avenue had a longer hood (bonnet) than my new yorker. Other than that they looked similar to me but I didn't pay much attention to it at that time.

Edit: I found this site that seems to be reasonable. I can't vouch for its accuracy but at least its not wikipedia. http://www.nybclub.org/history/index.htm

All the Chrysler M-body web sites I've seen all say this. The one on the side is my fav. gray with black roof, red int. and the extreemly rare "Road Wheels" (by the way I corrected most of the Wikipedia info on these great cars) I like what it says on the windsheild of the white one: Affordable Luxury

Lack of side moulding means '82 only.

Not true, I owned an '82 New Yorker Fifth Avenue Edition and it had side moldings, they came with them if ordered with the Protection Package which also included floor mats.
