No, the LPS is the biggest version of this range. To identify by the headlights in the bumper. @rjluna2: the oval headlights of the big LPS-series are identical with the Ford 17 M[P3], the NSU 1000 and some other vehicles. |

LPS? I don't know if I'm right, but I believe the letters are as follows: L = Lastkraftfahrzug, German for Truck or Heavy Goods Vehicle. P = Pullman kabine, meaning a bigger cabin compare with the small ones built in the 50's and earlier. S = Sattelzugmachine, German for Tandem rear axle, or two rear axles. Possible another later mening would be "Schwer" = German for Heavy. A = Allrad, German for Four wheel drive. K = I'm not sure, but possible Truck with hood or bonnet, or perhaps specially equipped for certain markets. L? Certainly. P? Sure. S? Perhaps, but most likely not. |

I stand corrected! When looking for something else, I found a Mercedes truck model range called "Lkv-Typenübersicht", printed in January 1968. It states that all trailer towing models are called "S" as their last letter, which as a second thought is correct as "Sattelzug" naturally means "saddle train" where the saddle is the place where the trailer is 'hinged'. (I'm sorry for this mistake, I should have known as I have studied the German language for a while. But on the other hand; a friend of mine studied to became a Chemist and stated that a fully trained such is someone that has forgotten more Chemistry than most other people will ever learn...) Consequently the above truck is a LPS. But which one is much more complicated, in 1968 there was a choice between a number of models: 608, 911, 1013, 1313, 1317, 1513, 1517, 1418, 1623, 1920 and 1923, but for twin rear axles (also called LPS) only 2023 (6x2) and 2223 (6x4). -- Last edit: 2014-05-28 19:54:21 |

It's not necessary to put "kubischer Frontlenker" as extra info. Or else we'd have to put "jellybean-shaped conventional truck" to every International ProStar in the db, for instance. |
