I'm convinced the front is Humber. Although Humber were primarily makers of large saloon cars (other than military vehicles) I can find a reference to a Snipe 10cwt van being produced. So most likely Snipe (1945-8). The example in the film is probably stock footage and shows a London "Evening Standard" newspaper delivery van from between 1945-50 I would guess. -- Last edit: 2006-10-15 13:45:33 |

Tha Dodge-Commer-Karrier 75th anniversary factory booklet issued in 1980 by Dodge/Talbot ( lit n° 1139/10/80) contains a picture of a similar Humber Super Snipe van.It has registration HYO 663 on top of the cabin ( this one is HYR 139 also on top of thz cabin) and a fleet number 1105 on it.It also has a left fog light under the headlight. This fleet of Humber Super Snipe 10cwt vans was operated by the United Service Transport for the London Evening Standard newspaper. The script in the middle of the grille bears " United".They were said to be amongst the fastest commercials in London in the post wwII period.I do not have figures of the exact number produced.Unquestionably an interesting document. |
