SEL for W108 meant 280SEL, unless it was a 300SEL (W109) (just looked this up on wikipedia). Could it be this?

I think the hubcaps are the integral type, then 280 SEL W108 1968+.

To be a W 109 300 SEL (much rarer, mainly in Italy, where taxes for similar cars with higher engine capacity are punitive) the hubcaps must be smaller, with the solid and separate rings. To be like this, we would be able to see the body colour between the hubcap and the chrommed ring, what I cannot see. Also all W 108 had springs and W 109 had pneumatic suspension which always gave a different look to parked cars (usually the front was slightly lower).

No. These here are obviously rounder and the chrome frame is the thicker, single one. So it's pre-1968 car.

P.S. @bob dieck: there were no more different wheels for the W108/108. The old ones from the W110/111 with the rounder, thicker hubcaps and the extra outer rings, and then the 1968+ version with the W114/115-hubcaps with integrated rings (used later on also for the W123,W116,C107,R107).
Only the 300 SEL 6.9 had a different rim-size (always the BBS-"Barock"-alloys) with thicker and stronger tires.

Sorry, but I disagree. The pre-1968 hubcap is smaller ( the painted part is much smaller and the chrommed part bigger) and the wheel colour could be seen in this distance.

I look for a good photo os the smaller hubcap with separate ring which could be a good example and I ask you to check: Link to "www.google.com.br"

@bob dieck: yes, I know. And you're right, that on the linked pic there's the old wheel version with the separate hubcap and chrome ring - and I'm really convinced, that the Benz on the main pic has these old, pre-1968 wheels, hubcaps and chrome rings. The hubcap looks rounder and the chrome ring thicker than the 1968+ W115-identical version.

Ingo, did you see any trace of painted wheel in the movie picture? It shoul be seen on this angle. That's the strongest reason I have.

My last hope is to check if 300 SEL were sold in Italy...I will do it this evening, Brazil time.

But I agree that investigation on this kind of picture is hard to convince partners.

Anyway, one thing is definitive: If the car is pre-1968 it is a W 109 300 SEL 1966+ ( and not 280 SEL).

If the car is post-1968, then it is a W 108 280 SEL. What is wrong by any terms is to call it a 280 SEL 1966+ which was never produced.
