I'd imagine this is rather a 1986 model because of the big hubcaps (if not fitted later) as earlier models like here http://www.flickriver.com/photos/tags/volvo740/ (9th and 25th picture) had smaller ones. Also I think the number plate beginning with a L indicates this is a 1986 rather than 1985. |

L was used for new cars 1982-85. Early 86 model year had reused numbers. But late in 1985 M was first used and was used for the rest of 1986 model year, always with a low first number (0-4). Early 1987 model year had M as first letter but with a high first number (5-9). I would rather guess that this FAKE polis car is a 1985. The first Polis painted 740 was first bought in 1989 (very few) that was also the first year with the new blue and white paint. |

As you say: No fleet number, cloth seats in rear and no text telling what county it belongs too. So a fake. At least a good fake, not like in some modern movies where they use Black cars with Police text... |
