An anachronism, because this scene is supposed to take place in 1980.

They try to hide it behind a tire...

... and there's a Cadillac behind the television.

Isn't the TV-set an anachronism, too? It looks 90ies-like.
But I'm not an expert. Rather a late bloomer in those things. My first colour-TV I got in 1994, before I always have purchased used b/w-chunks via advertises. My first VHS-recorder came in 1999, my first DVD-player in 2004  And we still have no HD- or flat screen-TV's at home, just two 1998' Trinitons. One from my wife's first apartment, the other a heirloom from my grandmother.

Pretty dated like for the 90s standards and such "hard core" retro design :D wasn't popular yet, back then.

1998? That's all? We still use a Curtis Mathes my grandfather bought in 1986. I've heard Curtis Mathes's used to be advertised as "The most expensive television in America and darn well worth it" or something to that effect.

A Curtis Mathes? That's pretty interesting. I used to have a late 80's Magnavox when I was younger, which now resides in a spare bedroom. It's in pretty good shape, too.

Grandpa splurged a bit after Grandma died.

Interesting thing for me is, my first TV was of an American brand, and my first video game console (NES) was of a Japanese brand, while my current TV is a Japanese brand (Toshiba) and my current video game console is of an American brand (XBOX 360).

Just thought that was interesting, since the brand origins have reversed.

Actually, my last 2 TVs were Toshibas. A 27 inch flat screen tube from around 04-05, and my current 26" HD flat screen (given as a gift).

My first TV was the old one from my parents, a 1972 DDR-made "STASSFURT" (it ws the cheapest TV, available in that year), after it died in the late 80ies (the last time I had to switch the programmes with a plumber's pliers) I purchased several used b/w TV-sets, which lived between 4 weeks and 2 years. In 1994, in my first own apartment, I've bought an "IMPERIAL" for ca.250 €. No stereo, just big and cheap. I was never interested in TV, so "big and cheap" was most important. This and the following "UNIVERSAL" (same thing, just annother brand-name) were the only items, I've ever bought at WalMart Germany, when it existed.
Since these two died, I'm satisfied with grandma's old Triniton. When this will be broken down, my wife wants to have an extra large flat-screen with all kind of extras. Shall she look for it, I don't care about that. She watches more TV than me, so it's her thing.
