The wood finish on right of speedo makes me think Ford - possibly a late Mk3 or Mk4 Cortina - but I'm guessing. It does not have Smiths logo, so that may rule out several makes/models. When did UK speedos start showing km/h markings? |

Episode made with help of the BP materials - credits says, then British car is perhaps a step in good direction. |

But, this one is using MPH as major and the Km/h as minor ![]() |

Yes - That is why we are thinking it is a British car. They generally have MPH in big letters with a smaller Km/h scale on the inside. |

That is absolutely normal for cars in Britain. We don't use the metric system for distances or speed limits. |

The second series Mk3 Cortina, built from 1974 on with restyled instrument panel, looks the same. Presence of wood suggests a high end model; how about a 2000E? http://www.flickr.com/photos/triggerscarstuff/5680389723/ |

I think you've cracked it. It smelt Cortina to me for about 74 onwards, but I was wary in case Granada or Capri matched as well. Your photo matches everything I can see for comparison, so Sept 73 onwards Mk3 Cortina 2000E. Not really sure I can make anything useful out of the thumb of wheel on rollers. -- Last edit: 2011-11-05 00:46:34 |
