Je pense que c'est un AMX 10 français maquillé "Afrika Korps", mais je peux me tromper.. En tous cas **** ... c'est rare d'avoir un tank en "star automobile" ![]() |

Even though some details still annoy me, I am sure it is an AMX-13/90 Modèle 52. The AMX-13 was designed by the Atelier de Construction d'Issy-les-Moulineaux in 1946, first prototype built in 1948. From 1952 it was produced at the Atelier de Construction Roanne (ARE) and in 1964 the production was moved to Creusot-Loire. The AMX-13/90 is an 1966 upgrade of the 1952 version. the 75 mm gun was replaced by a 90 mm gun. The thing which is still a bit of a mystery is the idler wheel. The chassis version 2E had three support rollers, as we see here, but the idler wheel is too far back, for my liking. There was a prototype with an improved suspension by Krauss-Maffei. I have no photos of this version, so it is just guesswork. The prototype was called AMX-13 GTI. -- Last edit: 2006-07-25 21:23:25 |

What a knowledge! ... Is the make ARE? when the producing factory was Atelier de Construction de Roanne (ACR in abreviation)?... Could the version AMX13/90 dated 1966 then, and production maker under Creusot-Loire? |

Thanks! ![]() It is a bit strange, but said to be correct. The way I read it, it is Atelier de construction de RoannE. Same for AMX: Atelier de construction d'issy-les-MoulineauX. I will look for a confirmation. Only the gun was made and installed in 1966, the rest of the tank was "second hand". ![]() Creusot-Loire, a private company, produced new tanks from 1964 on. Most went into export, as the AMX-13 was a 'top seller' with almost 8000 being built between 1952 and 1985. They took over as ARE, a government owned company, started to build the AMX-30. |

Thank's for the explanations, I see ARE is actually the make... I know the Roanne (and St-Chamond, St-Etienne) plant, where I had several business appointments when I was working in Lyon area. It was under the GIAT (Groupement des Industries de l'Armée de Terre) name at this moment. |

This definitely isn't AMX-13, but Austrian Steyr-Daimler-Puch SK-105 Kurassier, with the same turret! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SK-105_K%C3%BCrassier ) When I first watched this movie several years ago I was convinced, that it was AMX-13 as well. |

The film was shot in Tunisia (see credits on the IMDB), and Wikipedia says the Tunisian army uses the Kurassier. |
