Trucker, those pictures are not all pictures of the '74 KW the 1st & 4th pictures are of the '73 Kenworth W-900A VIT I talked to Paul Sagehorn through an e-mail he told me that there were 4 Sonny KW's used in the TV Series total! and also if we include the Pilot Truck & the black 'n' green KW that would be 6 Kenworth's total used in the show the 2 original trucks were '74 Kenworth W-900 VIT's so the W-900A VIT in the name of the truck needs to go and be switched with just W-900 VIT both of the '74's have been known to exist today! the other trucks were a '75 Kenworth W-900A VIT & a '73 Kenworth W-900A VIT both have been scrapped after being destroyed after filming! the '73 cought on fire right after filming was done and was scrapped, the '75 went to cluade akins after filming then when he died in '94 his decided to auction off the truck at the end of '95 early '96 the truck was sitting in a barn when that barn collapsts and the truck was crushed & totaled then was Scrapped! look on Paul S'. Web site he first mentions the '75 Kenworth W-900A VIT in the tab "Loactions" when he got to see the house that was in the episdoe "To be in Carolina" which he said featured the '75 Kenworth W-900A VIT the black 'n' green KW was a '76 Kenworth W-925 & the pilot truck was a '73 Kenworth W-925 check out my link below of Paul mentioning the '75 KEnworth W-900A VIT http://www.tvtruckin.com/id11.html there's really 4 epsisodes that I know of that featured both of the original trucks "'74 KW's" 2 small epsiodes "Antique's" & "Games" then 2 big episodes "The Switch" that also featured a black 'n' green '76 Kenworth and "General Delievery" that also featured a Gray & white '59 GMC Cracker box -- Last edit: 2009-11-19 00:57:21 |

4x4 23 is correct! Paul Sagehorn the owner of the surviving truck did mention that this truck wasn't a W-900 A VIT it was a W-900 VIT |
◊ 2010-01-29 00:31 |
yeah I also agree with BM & 4x4 23 the the truck was is a 1974 Kenworth W-900 VIT "both of the original trucks were like that" however there were also a 1975 Kenworth W-900A VIT & a 1973 Kenworth W-900A VIT used in the series as well the 1975 Kenworth W-900A VIT was used in the following episodes #1. "Hoots" #2. "Will the last trucker leaving Charlotte please turn out the lights" #3. Part of "Love, Death and Laura Brown" the other truck used in that episode was a 1973 Kenworth W-900A VIT, they way to tell if it's the '75 or '73 is look at the CB Radio and antenna's the '73 has them pushed back by the wind & the '75 also had Black Mud Flaps with White "KW" Emblem's most of the time it appeared on TV #4. "Games" #5. "Please don't talk to the driver" #6. "Landslide" #7. "Life Lines" #8. "......To be in Carolina" and to back me up here is a link down below, of Paul Sagehorn the known owner of one of the surviving 1974 Kenworth W-900 VIT's talking about a 1975 Kenworth Being in the series http://www.tvtruckin.com/id11.html |

You learn something new every day and here is proof the 1974 Kenworth W-900 VIT wasn't a W-900 A and it needs to be removed from the title... |

NOTE: the 1973 Kenworth W-900 VIT, Truck #3, was mainly used for interrior shots, for both seasons, it wasn't seen in many episodes for both seasons, it had both style breathers for the during it's fame. According to George Sack the truck was lot purchased out in Arizonia, Brand New as a 1973 model in 1974. when purchased from the lot it was identical to the 2 brand new 1974 Kenworth's, except it had the lime green stripes or arrows, NOTE: when also purchased it had the little 36" Sleeper as the walk-In 60" was only avalible in 1974, Universal Studio's had bought the truck painted the arrows and the Lime Green stripes and had ordered a brand new 60" Walk-In Sleeper for the truck, making it a modified 1973 Kenworth W-900 VIT, George told me the truck was destoryed with 7 other movie trucks in a ware house fire back in 1979, and the truck no longer exist today. everything that was needed to convert the truck into a 1974 model was except for one little detail the hood KW logo on the grill, it was still gold and chrome making it visible that it was infact a 1973 model truck, you can also tell by looking at the CB Radio antenna's sometimes they were set to face forward and sometimes they were pushed back by the wind, here are 2 picture's that are clearly visible so you can see for yourself -- Last edit: 2012-04-22 04:29:31 |

A total of 5 Trucks were used to film the Movin' On Series The first season had two 1974 Kenworth W-925 VIT'S purchased brand new by MGM Studios to film the first season of Movin' On one of them is Vin #143604 that is now officially owned by Mark Strencer out of Tennessee (Paul Sagehorn that also owns the B.J. and the Bear Truck out of Wisconsin that was featured on an episode of American Trucker has since sold the surviving truck to Mark Strencer out of Tennessee in 2018) and other one is Vin #143605 that ended up getting wrecked in a head on fatal collision around 1998 when a straight truck had driven into it's lane at the time the truck was owned by Dick Welsh during filming these two trucks were mainly used for the driving scene's and one of these two trucks were always at the ready film location of where they were going to film next these two trucks had featured a VT-903 400HP Cummins Engine with a 13 Speed Transmission After filming the second season had began being filming these two trucks were sent on tour to truck shows to advertise for the show and after that the trucks had Hollywood Universal Studios in 1977 a year after the show had ended Vin #143604 was immediately sent to a Kenworth Dealer in Connecticut and than was shipped to another Kenworth Dealer in Pennsylvania and from there that's where truck truck was sold to an individual where it had started working for a living hauling real loads Vin #143605 was either bought or given to Claude Akins himself and was kept by Claude Akins himself until his death eventually his family had ended up selling the truck to a Kenworth dealership in Colorado and than from there was shipped to another Kenworth Dealer in Nebraska which is how Dick Welsh had untimely ended up with the truck Here is picture's of one of these trucks when it was brand new before it was delivered to MGM Studios Another fun fact is that the bottom arrow on the door was removed on every truck used to film Movin' On by the film production because when the S. Pruitt was added to the door of each truck the film production had thought that the door had looked to cluttered with S. Pruitt being added to the door The second season had featured two 1975 Kenworth W-925 VIT'S these two trucks had featured a NTC-400HP Cummins Engine with a 15 Speed Transmission that both had a deep reduction switch on the dash Again with these two trucks these two trucks were mainly used for the driving scene's and one of these two trucks were always at the ready film location of where they were going to film next Despite what some say Claude Akins didn't end up with one of these two trucks in 1977 after the show was over and done with meaning that neither one of these two trucks were sitting in a barn at the time roof had collapsed all over it In 1977 these two trucks had both left Universal Studio Truck Lots and i'm not sure if they were auctioned off or if they were sent back to Kenworth as there's no documents on file as of right now to try and figure out a vin number to either truck to try and figure out what had ended up happening with either one of the season two trucks and neither 1975 Kenworth W-925 VIT that was used to film the second season of Movin' On has surfaced to this day to try and figure out a vin number for either truck, But, There are plenty of picture's going around the internet to show that both of these two trucks were actually sold to individuals and were actually working for a living hauling real loads all through the late 70's and the 80's The most recent picture I have seen of either 1975 Kenworth W-925 VIT that was used to film the second season of Movin' On was from 1991 otherwise no one know's what had ended up happening to either 1975 Kenworth W-925 VIT that was used to film the second season of Movin' On as of right now Here picture's of these two 1975 Kenworth W-925 VIT'S when they were delivered to MGM Studios from Kenworth when they were brand new The last truck was a modified 1973 Kenworth W-925 that was made to look like a 1974 during the first season of the show and that was also made to look like a 1975 during the second season of the show (As it was mainly the only truck that was used during both seasons of the show) This 1973 truck would of been the third truck purchased by MGM Studios to be used to film Movin' On One way to tell this truck apart from the other's is that the KW Logo on the grill was gold with red letters which means that it was a 1973 with the 50th Anniversary KW Logo This 1973 truck was only already a year old at the time filming had began and was built up for mainly the interior shots as the truck that was rigged with Camera's was destroyed hence is why a brand new truck wasn't used to be rigged with Camera's for the interior scene's, However Though, The truck does make appearances and does some very few driving scene's through out the series in episodes like Games where a cop car smashed into it, Grit, Hoots when the truck was vandalized with dirt and mud all over truck, The Big Switch Episode during the night time driving scene's, Love, Death and Laura Brown with the pushed back cb radio antenna's for Camera mounts and the two part goin' home episodes during the actual truck race although this 1973 truck was never featured in a full episode of driving scene's except for maybe Love, Death and Laura Brown After filming had completed the 1973 Kenworth Truck had ended up at Wichita Kenworth INC. with numerous amount of damage to the truck after being rigged with the Camera's for the interior shots (The interior supposedly even had burn marks all inside of the truck over from the Camera's) and is verified to be long gone atleast a year after the show had went off of the air ever since 1977 (But, The hood still partly remains because it was fully intact) So, This truck burning down in a warehouse fire on the backlot of Universal Studio Truck Lots is also completely untrue After talking to Kenworth themselves and with this post (Mainly the reason why I am sharing it with all of you on this website as many have been giving false information on these trucks for years and have stated that it had came from this website) and have the build sheets to the sister truck of the surviving truck along with brand new picture's of the two second season 1975 trucks as shown here I am willing to back myself up at anytime if challenged Here's some behind the scene's picture's of this truck and one screen shot of this truck along with a picture of the truck attending a truck show to promote for the show while Season One was being aired There's also picture's of this truck going around the internet where there was numerous of picture's of a girl doing quite a poses with picture's of this truck for some magazine Here's some picture's of this truck rigged with Camera's with it behind the scene's Here's a picture of what is left of the hood off of the 1973 truck today at Wichita Kenworth INC. and also a screen shot off of Facebook about them posting about the hood on their personal page So, With that said that means that there was one 1973, two 1974 trucks and two 1975 trucks used to film the whole entire series of Movin' On -- Last edit: 2023-06-12 10:45:19 |

Another thing about the season one trucks versus the season two trucks were the breathers The season two trucks had the smaller donaldson breathers Although going off of the truck with the steamy air horn sound one of the season one 1974 trucks was made to look like a 1975 and was used to film the Breakout Episode and the A Home Is Not A House Episode that seems to be the same truck that was used in the High Rollers Episode, the Life Lines Episode, the Ransom Episode and the Weddin' Bells Episode For those episodes I am assuming that it was Vin #143604 as the surviving truck does have a similar air horn sound While the other 1974 truck seems was made to look like a 1975 and was used to film The Elephant Story Episode or the Woman Of Steel Episode that seems to be the same truck that was used in the Ammo Episode, the Cowhands Episode, the Landslide Episode and the Roadblock Episode As in regards to the modified 1973 truck I do know that it did feature some type of 350HP Cummins Engine with a 10 Speed Transmission, But, As of right now most are trying to find out more about this truck as most are just learning about this truck being used for filming -- Last edit: 2023-06-13 01:47:48 |

Great information, midnight trucker. It sure seems you have spent some time digging into this. The only one of these I have personally seen is the one Mark bought from Paul. It has obviously been through some changes through the years. It still had a 13-speed in it, but was swapped over to a 6-cylinder Cummins. It also a had Peterbilt air-leaf suspension under the rear. I would suspect the rear gears were changed when the 8 was taken out and the 6 put in. I'm thrilled to see some fresh posts on this thread. I'll be watching to see what else you come up with. -- Last edit: 2023-07-06 18:25:03 |

I just watched "The Big Switch" from season 2. There were the Donaldson air cleaners, big as life! Also, the "Kenworth" badge on the hood was lower and farther forward (completely outside the green arrow). Thanks to midnight trucker for these bits of information. Really helped identify the 1975 trucks. |

The Big Switch Episode would of actually been the two Season One 1974 Trucks made to look like the Season Two 1975 trucks because they had to use those two trucks for the "fleet owner" scene's |
