But it's still a German brand and design, isn't that what we mean by model origin? Should the Honda Civics made in Swindon have UK as model orign? |

I thought the watercooled T2c was origin Brazil? All the other T2c here are listed as origin Brazil. |

@G-Mann: the T2c has a total different engine, the interior is different, body and chassis, too (the roof is a plastic shell, mounted on the window-frames), so only smaller parts are still identical with the German T2b. A friend had imported a handfull, so once I had the chance to watch the details. And the brand is not really German. VW do Brazil, also VW Mexico are independent brands inside the Volkswagen-trust. |

And no explosion, no rust and bad quality? ![]() |

All Brazilian and Mexican made VW's have a much worse rust-conservation than the European made cars. For that reason the 1978+ Beetles (between 1978, when the German production ended, and 1985 VW has sold Mexican made VW 1200 in Europe) have a lower value and reputation. And yes, Brazilian made VW's and spare parts are often in terrible quality. The guys, which have the business to sell aircooled VW-parts, NOS-stuff and imported (around a dozen specialized, all private, dealers for that we have in Germany, also a friend of me: Link to "maps.google.de" ) had indeed problems with South American made parts (but same with no name halflegal or illegal junk from Asia). Several parts for the Typ1 haven't changed and were still produced in Brazil, years after finishing in Germany. So they only accept and import spare parts in "Erstausrüster-Qualität ( = "Original equipment manufacturer"). Since a while we are selling in our K 70-Club Brazilian made Fusca-wheel brake cylinders (they are identical). They are fine, I have them in my car, too. |

P.S. This friend, who owns the linked garage, owns also a bunch of Brazilian VW's, all privte imported (two SP2, one- the only in Europe- fourdoor Typ 3, a Karmann TC, two T2c and some more), and he told me, that it was a big drama and took several months and needed good connections to find finally cars in good or mint condition. Due crash-damages, but also the poor quality and non-existing rust conservation nearly no acceptable fine classic VW's are to find in Brazil. And he has good connections since over 20 years... |

Hmm, i understand. What a trouble... here the early Gacel and others VW's had terrible quality. |
